Our Principal Attorney

I am the wife of a wonderful husband and the mother of three children whom I love and adore. I grew up in a large family with both parents in the home. Family has always been important to me. Coming from a large family and having a family of my own has exposed me to some of the challenges facing marriages, families, and individuals.

It was during a difficult period in our marriage, that my husband and I really begin to focus on what we call our “marriage purpose.” In that season we were not sure if we would be married in the next season, but we were both willing to work at it. We went to secular and religious counseling. We attended marriage workshops and we interviewed and met with other married couples to glean some wisdom. We came out of that season of our lives as stronger individuals, stronger husband and wife, stronger parents, and ultimately as a stronger family.

As a social worker for many years, I engaged in case management, life coaching, psycho-educational groups, community outreach and advocacy, and many other activities aimed at supporting and strengthening diverse families. I went to law school understanding that families have many difficulties and there are times when family difficulties can best be solved through legal interventions. While in law school and even afterwards, I found the extreme legalistic view of families to be in conflict with my core beliefs about families and the individuals that make up those families. I drifted away from family law and leaned towards criminal law. It was in those criminal law positions that I got a close and personal view of the impact of incarceration on families, particularly minority families and communities. Again, my passion for families rose to the surface and I decided to take a staff attorney position that allowed me to provide brief legal assistance to families and individuals. Now, I am excited to be able to provide legal services and supports to families and individuals through Family First Legal.
